The city of Córdoba is located in southern Spain. As the capital of the province of Córdoba, it enjoys good facilities, and a wide range of activities for visiting tourists. The Alcázar of Córdoba is also an important tourist attraction. Located on the river, the Alcázar is a medieval fortress and palace. Although there is a fee for visitors, the walled gardens and water features are beautiful and well worth the visit. Other parks and gardens in Córdoba include the Botanical Gardens and the Gardens of La Ribera.
Explore the old town in Córdoba and you will find many architecturally interesting buildings, reflecting the city’s past as the largest city in western Europe. That was in the 10th century, and today you will find a smaller city, which is easy to get around. Flowers abound in the city, which is probably most famous for its floral patios. Visit the old city, with its characteristic white buildings, to see the many houses adorned with flowers, and in the city you will find the streets are filled with orange trees.
If you enjoy visiting museums and galleries, you will find what you need in Córdoba, including the Archaeological museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Regina Museum. The latter is dedicated to Córdoba jewellers, whilst at the Museum of Fine Arts you can view baroque, renaissance and contemporary work. The city has a few annual festivals, so book early if you are planning to visit the city during one of them. At Easter Córdoba celebrates Holy Week, and the festivities and processions are stunning. Around the theme of flowers, the Crosses of May Festival takes place early in May, followed by the Patio Contest.
