Budapest – Hungary’s top tourist destination

Budapest – the city with two halves

Budapest – comprising Buda and Pest, is an up and coming city in Europe. Located in the centre of Hungary, this is where you will find the magnificent government buildings, grand architecture and views of the Danube River, which flows from north to south through the city. Buda lies to the west, and is where you will find the Royal Palace. Pest is to the east, and represents the commercial half of the city. Together they form Budapest. Many cultures have influenced the city through its history, so be sure to look out for the Turkish baths!

Avoiding the heat in summer

Budapest enjoys a temperate continental climate. You will find the hottest months are July and August, and the coldest January and February. For the rest of the year there is usually plenty of sunshine. If you want to reserve hotel accommodation, use the search options on this website to find the perfect place to stay. HotelCompany offers Internet room rates at a variety of hotels in Budapest, to suit most budgets. You can also see if the hotel offers air-conditioning –recommended for the hottest months!

Out and about in Hungary

Budapest clearly has plenty to offer visitors and tourists, but you may also want to explore the Hungarian countryside and towns. Budapest is the transport hub of the country, so this is quite easy. Take the train to Szentendre, just north of Budapest, for exclusive shopping and cultural sights. Favoured by Hungarian artists, Szentendre is a charming town with plenty of restaurants that cater for tourists.

For relaxing holidays or invigorating free time

Budapest provides something for everyone. If you prefer to sit and relax with a cup of coffee, or a sumptuous meal, you will find plenty of restaurants and cafes. For the more active traveller, the Buda Hills are the perfect place for a long ramble, or a cycle-ride through the forests. Nature and relaxation combine in the magnificent Margaret Island park. It even has an open air theatre with ballet and opera performances in the summer time. The City Park is where you will find the largest open green area in the city. It’s also home to the city fun fair, and the city zoo – making it a great place to spend a day, or two!
