With a Mediterranean location in the south east of France, Nice enjoys good weather for most of the year. Although Nice is a great city to visit at any time of the year, if you make your reservation around Shrove Tuesday, you can enjoy the Carnaval de Nice. During the Carnaval, which lasts several days, the streets are alive with parades and musicians, and people don elaborate face masks. In the evening the party continues and this is when you can marvel at the Lights exhibition. Illuminated floats and fireworks create an amazing and memorable atmosphere.
Like so many cities in Provence, Nice is a lively and bustling city. The old quarter sits on the coast offering spectacular views of the ocean. A daily market, with fruit, vegetables and flowers is held at the Saleya Court, as is the antique market. You will also find the old quarter is rich with restaurants, bars and bistros. Just take some time to sit and breath in the wonderful atmosphere and clean air. The mild climate ensures you can usually enjoy sitting outside on the terraces. If you prefer some greenery when you stop to relax, Nice will not disappoint you.
Eating out in the city you will discover a wide variety of cuisines. Mediterranean dishes come with both French and Italian influences. You’ll also find vegetarian dishes and with Nice’s coastal position, plenty of seafood. Whether you want to enjoy a romantic meal for two, or a relaxed dinner party with friends, you will find the restaurants can cater for you. Later in the evening, you can enjoy dancing, live music or a trip to the theatre. Whatever your preference, Nice has plenty of opportunities for enjoying yourself.
Nice has many museums, including the Matisse Museum and the Photography and Picture Theatre. For outdoors entertainment you can join a tour of the French Riviera – with tours also offered in English. Head for the Promenade des Anglais and you can enjoy strolling along one of the most famous sights in the city. Lined with hotels, museums and apartment buildings on one side, you can enjoy the ocean on the other.
