Enjoy the beautiful city of Bruges

Marvel at the architecture in Bruges

Bruges is renowned for its medieval architecture. In particular it is worth visiting the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) which is Europe’s highest brick building, rising to an amazing 122 metres. The well preserved centre of Bruges has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. There are many places for you to visit during your stay in Bruges, including a number of theatres, cinemas and fine museums. The varied nightlife includes the modern Concertgebouw which hosts opera, classical music, theatre and dance. A visit to the Cactus Club will provide you with live music, including rock, country and jazz. The streets radiate out from two public squares, bridging the canals. Enjoy a boat ride on the canals or take a walking tour. The Tourist Office will be able to recommend walking tours which will lead you past the main attractions in the city. If you are feeling energetic try the walk from The Burg to the Lake of Love, a pleasant 3 to 4 hour stroll. Tired of walking – take a break at one of the many cafes bordering the canal and sidewalks. Many of these have open air terraces overlooking the canals.

How to get there

You will find that Bruges has very narrow medieval streets. Because of this, the best way to arrive is by train. If you are arriving by air, you can choose to land at the Ostend-Bruges International Airport which is just 20km from the city. However, you could also fly to Brussels Airport and complete your journey by train. If the ferry is your preferred method of travel you will arrive in the port of Zeebrugge. The port is not only an international port but also a small but very pleasant seaside resort. There are many hotels to choose from. Why not take advantage of the drop down box on this web page to browse through some of the fine hotels available.

A chocolate-lovers’ dream

Well known for it’s delicious range of irresistible chocolates (check out the Chocolate Museum!), Bruges also boasts extremely fine cuisine in its many restaurants. Try washing down mouth-watering seafood with the excellent lambic beers. The bars carry a large range of beers including the locally brewed Brugse Tarwebier and Tripel.
